ProjectMods
Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is ProjectMods, exactly?

ProjectMods is a community-first game modding platform with a free Windows desktop app and this website. Browse 937 mod packs across 110 PC games, install mods in one click, vote on community mod ideas, climb leaderboards, and earn CyberCoins through daily check-ins and missions. Think of it as "the game, but with your personality installed."

2. Is this actually free or is there a catch?

ProjectMods is genuinely free. No trial timers. No surprise charges. No "oops, your card is now involved."

Free forever: free mods, full community access, 50 daily CyberCoins, 3 mod votes and 3 mod requests per day, and standard rewards.

Premium unlocks every mod, 100 daily CyberCoins, 5 votes and 5 requests per day, premium-only rewards, better mystery-chest odds, and early access to new mods. Premium helps keep the lights on and the mod pipeline moving — think of it as a tip jar that unlocks extra goodies.

The only real side effect of the free version is a higher chance of losing track of time, sunlight, and possibly sleep. That part is still on you.

3. Will this get me banned from my game?

Short answer: Not if you use mods the way ProjectMods is built for.

Long answer: ProjectMods is for single-player and offline PC games where modding is allowed. We do not support cheating in online multiplayer or bypassing anti-cheat. If you mod Call of Duty ranked and get banned, that's a you problem. We warned you. Don't be that person. See our Terms of Service for the full line.

4. Is ProjectMods Safe?

Yes. Every mod on ProjectMods is built in-house by our team — not scraped from random forums, not user-uploaded zip files, not mystery executables from 2009.

We review and scan everything before it ships. No viruses. No malware. No shady stuff. 100% legit, 100% ours. The desktop app installs mods on your Windows PC the way we designed them. We're not trying to brick your rig or steal your data — we're trying to make your games more fun.

5. What do I need to run ProjectMods?

A Windows 10 or later PC and the ProjectMods desktop app (download from the footer on any page). Sign in with your ProjectMods account and you're in.

ProjectMods is Windows desktop only. Mods install into PC games on that machine — Steam. No phone app, no tablet app, no console support. Just PC.

6. How do I uninstall a mod if I hate it?

Open the ProjectMods desktop app, find the game, go to your installed mods, and hit Uninstall. Done.

We do not back up your game files or saves — uninstall removes the mod from your setup, not a full "restore vanilla" rollback. We've all installed a mod we immediately regretted. No judgment.

7. Can I request a mod that doesn't exist yet?

Yes! Submit ideas in the Community tab (desktop app) or on projectmods.io/community. The community upvotes and downvotes suggestions; popular ideas get prioritized by our creators.

Free accounts: 3 submissions per day. Premium: 5 per day. Keep in mind: "Make every NPC look like Shrek" is more likely to get made than "Build an entire new game from scratch." Set realistic expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

8. Do mods work after the game updates?

Sometimes yes, sometimes the update drops a meteor on everything. Game patches can break mods. When that happens, we patch what we can as fast as possible — and we'll communicate clearly if something needs time.

9. What happens if a mod breaks my game?

First, don't panic. Uninstall the mod from the ProjectMods app. If things are still broken, reach us on Discord (fastest) or email [email protected] with the game name, mod name, and what went wrong. We'll help you troubleshoot.

Also, maybe don't install 47 mods at once next time. Baby steps.

10. Can I use ProjectMods on more than one PC?

One at a time. The desktop app allows one active PC session per account. Sign in on a second machine and the first session is signed out — we're not running a six-rig household license.

Your account still lives in the cloud: CyberCoins, badges, premium status, streaks, and progress follow you when you sign in on a different PC later. The website works alongside that for account management, community, and billing.

Mod installs stay on the PC where you installed them — they don't hop to another machine.

11. Do you sell my data?

No. We're not in the data-selling business. We collect account and usage data to run the service — email, username, mod activity, billing if you're Premium, and similar basics. Read our Privacy Policy for the full legal version, but TL;DR: we're not creeps. We don't sell your info to random companies.
