Loot Magnet does not filter by type or decide what is worth grabbing; it simply extends the reach of your existing pickup, so anything the game already lets you collect on contact now reaches you from much further away. Nothing about what those pickups are worth changes. You just stop losing half of them to the floor of a cleared cavern.
Does Loot Magnet reach the whole cavern or just a bigger bubble around me?
It is a much bigger bubble, and in practice it is large enough that a typical Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor cavern feeds straight into your pockets while you fight. The point is that you stop planning your movement around collection — you fight where the fighting is good, and the loot sorts itself out. Nothing else in the run changes: spawn rates, enemy behaviour, and hazard tiers are untouched. The only difference is how far away a mineral can be and still end up yours.
Can I switch Loot Magnet off mid-session?
Yes. Loot Magnet is a straight toggle — turn it off and your pickup range drops back to vanilla immediately, no restart and no lingering effects in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. That makes it easy to use it selectively: leave it on through the messy mid-run waves where sweeping is a chore, then switch it off if you want the ordinary collection game back for a deep dive. Toggling it either direction leaves everything else about the run exactly as it was.
What does Loot Magnet pair well with?

Loot Magnet brings the minerals to you and Power Driller gets them out of the wall fast, which between them removes almost all of the standing-still parts of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor.
