</>What does Spotlight! (Brightness) do?
Let's address the elephant in the haunted room: you can't see anything. The flashlight flickers, the rooms are pitch black, and somewhere in that darkness is something that wants to turn you into a statistic. Afraid of the Dark solves this by strapping what is essentially a small sun to your camera. Every dark corner? Illuminated. Every shadowy hallway? Bright as day. Every monster hiding in the darkness? Now clearly visible and somehow still terrifying. Adjust the brightness from "gentle nightlight" to "surface of the sun" depending on how much you value your retinas. The atmosphere might be ruined, but at least you'll see the thing that kills you. The monsters preferred it when you couldn't see them coming.

</>Common questions about Spotlight! (Brightness)
What does Spotlight! do in R.E.P.O.?
Spotlight! is a ProjectMods premium mod for R.E.P.O. that gives you a camera-mounted light beam that follows wherever you look. It comes with three controls: Spotlight ON! toggles the light on or off, Brighter! ramps the intensity up, and Dimmer! pulls it back down. The range goes from a gentle nightlight glow all the way up to maximum eye damage, so you can dial in exactly the level you want for any room or hallway. Once you set a brightness, it persists across levels — no resetting every run. Built for players who want to actually see what's about to grab them.
Will Spotlight! ruin the horror atmosphere of R.E.P.O.?
Only if you crank it to maximum eye damage. The whole point of Spotlight! on ProjectMods is that you control the dial — at low settings it acts as a gentle nightlight, taking the edge off pitch-black corridors without flattening the dread of R.E.P.O.. The horror in this game isn't just darkness; it's the audio, the timing, the things that move when you're not looking. A soft beam keeps tension intact while letting you actually navigate. If you want full chaos, dim it. If you want to film a co-op video where viewers can see what's happening, brighten it. Your run, your atmosphere.
How do Brighter! and Dimmer! work — are they presets, or do they ramp up/down each press?
They ramp. Brighter! and Dimmer! aren't presets — each press of the action bumps the Spotlight! intensity one step up or down, so you tune the light gradually instead of jumping between fixed levels. That means you can sit on a comfortable mid-glow for most of a run, then ramp up Brighter! a couple of clicks when you hit a darker basement, and bring it back down before a tense moment. The range covers everything from gentle nightlight to maximum eye damage. ProjectMods built it this way so the mod feels like a real lighting dial in R.E.P.O., not a binary on/off switch.
Does the brightness reset between levels, or does it carry across runs?
It carries. Once you set your Spotlight! brightness in R.E.P.O., that level persists across stages — you don't have to re-tune it every time you load into a new floor or extraction. This is intentional in the ProjectMods build: most players land on a brightness they like within the first couple of rooms, and resetting that every level would turn the mod into a chore. Just toggle Spotlight ON! at the start of your run, dial in with Brighter! or Dimmer!, and forget about it. The setting follows you until you change it or turn the light off entirely.
Can other players in my co-op lobby see my Spotlight, or is it client-side only?
Each player runs their own Spotlight!. The mod is camera-mounted per-player, so when you toggle Spotlight ON! in R.E.P.O. co-op, your beam follows your view — and if a teammate also has the ProjectMods Spotlight! mod installed, they get their own independent light following theirs. Teammates without the mod won't see your beam render in their game, which actually plays well: you can light your own path without lighting theirs, preserving the horror for players who want it dark. Brightness settings are also per-player, so one teammate can run nightlight mode while another goes full maximum eye damage.
