</>What does Novel On A Sign do?
Signs in Raft have a character limit. It's reasonable. It's practical. It's also incredibly annoying when you want to write detailed notes, label your storage properly, or leave passive-aggressive messages for your friends. Novel On A Sign removes that limit entirely. Well, technically it sets the limit to over 2 billion characters, but same difference. Write essays. Write coordinates. Write the entire bee movie script if you want - we won't stop you. The mod automatically applies to any sign you edit while it's enabled. Turn it off and future signs go back to normal limits. Your existing long signs will keep their text though. Your raft is about to become very well-documented.
</>What is Novel On A Sign?
Raft's signs have a small character limit that's fine for short labels but useless for actual notes, detailed storage labeling, or co-op communication. Novel On A Sign raises that ceiling to over 2 billion characters, which is functionally unlimited. Use it for proper inventory labeling on big bases, detailed notes left for co-op teammates, full coordinate logs for navigation, or just elaborate jokes. Toggle the option on, edit the sign, write what you want — toggle off and the next sign you edit goes back to vanilla rules. Existing long signs keep their text either way. Built in-house by ProjectMods, the community-first game modding platform and desktop app.
</>Common questions about Novel On A Sign
What does Novel On A Sign do in Raft?
It removes the character limit on signs. Toggle Remove Character Limit On Signs in the ProjectMods options panel and the next sign you edit accepts over 2 billion characters — functionally unlimited. Useful for proper storage labeling on a big raft, detailed co-op notes, full coordinate logs, or just elaborate sign jokes that vanilla Raft cuts off mid-sentence. The mod only changes signs you edit while it's enabled, so existing signs keep their text and disabling the toggle returns future signs to the vanilla limit. Pair it with bigger builds where you actually need real labels and not just 'Plnks'.
Can I write coordinates and notes on Raft signs with this mod?
Yes — that's one of the main use cases. With Novel On A Sign enabled, you can fit full coordinate logs, route notes, complete shopping lists, or paragraph-length co-op messages on a single sign. Useful for navigation hubs at the front of your raft, storage rooms with proper itemized labels, and co-op runs where teammates coordinate via written notes. The text persists across save loads, so notes you leave will still be there when you log back in. Vanilla Raft cuts you off at a small character count; this just removes that ceiling entirely.
Will my existing Raft signs be affected by this mod?
No. Novel On A Sign only changes the character limit on signs you edit while the toggle is enabled. Existing signs you wrote before installing the mod keep their original text and limit. Signs you wrote with the mod on keep their long text even after you disable the toggle, so you can do a labeling pass with the mod active, turn it off, and the long labels persist. Fully reversible — disable the option in the ProjectMods panel and future sign edits use vanilla limits again, no save state damage.
Why would I want unlimited text on Raft signs?
Three main reasons. Storage labeling — a serious raft has dozens of chests and vanilla limits force abbreviations like 'Plnks' instead of 'Planks (300 max, top shelf only)'. Co-op coordination — leaving real notes for teammates about routes, plans, or rules takes more characters than vanilla allows. Content creation — if you're filming a tour of your raft, signs with proper labels and lore make the build look intentional instead of half-finished. Novel On A Sign from ProjectMods removes the friction so signs are actually useful.
Does Novel On A Sign work in co-op multiplayer?
Yes — and it's especially useful in co-op. Sign edits sync to all players, so notes you write get seen by teammates regardless of whether they have the mod installed. The Novel On A Sign mod is host-side, so install it on whoever runs the session and the whole group benefits from unlimited sign text. Useful for setting house rules at the front of the raft, storage organization for shared chests, or just leaving long passive-aggressive notes for the friend who keeps stealing your planks.
What options does Novel On A Sign include?
Remove Character Limit On Signs
Write way more text on signs! The limit is basically removed.

Toggle Remove Character Limit On Signs in the options panel and signs you edit afterwards accept over 2 billion characters — effectively unlimited text.
