Every client in town teaches you new dress patterns as your friendship grows, from Adora and Alice through to Rose and Vivian. Close Knit lets you choose where each friendship stands. Pick a client and a level from 0 to 5 and press Set Friendship. The front desk plays each friendship moment just as it would after a commission, and the new patterns land in your sketchbook. Or press Best Friends With Everyone to take all ten to the top at once. This one skips the friendship moments and just tells you how many new patterns you've gained. Lowering a friendship never takes away patterns you already have.

What does Close Knit do in Dressmaker?

Which dress patterns does Close Knit unlock?
Close Knit unlocks the dress patterns each client teaches through friendship. In Dressmaker, every one of the ten clients has their own patterns, taught at friendship levels 1 to 4, with a few also at level 5, adding up to more than a hundred in all. When Set Friendship raises a client, you get every pattern that client teaches up to the new level, just as if you'd grown the friendship through commissions. Best Friends With Everyone hands you the whole lot in one press, taking Adora, Alice, Dorothy, Edith, Fiona, Marie, Priya, Prudence, Rose and Vivian all the way to 5.
What happens if I lower a client's friendship with Close Knit?
You keep every dress pattern. Lowering a friendship with Close Knit in Dressmaker changes the level but never takes away patterns you've already learned from that client, so you can drop Marie or Rose back to 0 and build the friendship up again with every pattern still in your sketchbook. At 0, their sketchbook page goes back to question marks and you can't gift them a dress until the friendship grows again. There's no friendship moment at the front desk on the way down; that only plays when a level goes up. It's a neat way to replay a client's friendship from scratch, or to set a save up exactly how you want it before your next round of commissions.
How do the Client and Friendship Level options work in Close Knit?
They choose who and how far. In Close Knit for Dressmaker, the Client list holds all ten clients, from Adora to Vivian, and Friendship Level is a number from 0 to 5 that starts at 5. Pick both, then press Set Friendship to give that client that level. Best Friends With Everyone skips both settings and takes everyone to 5. The buttons act once your save is loaded and you're in your shop; press one on the title screen and Close Knit tells you to open your save first. You can also give either button a key in the ProjectMods app to use it without leaving the game.
When does the friendship moment play after using Close Knit?
After Set Friendship, straight away if you're at the front desk, otherwise the next time you go back to it. Close Knit raises a Dressmaker friendship the instant you press the button, and the game's own friendship moments play at the front desk to mark it. A big jump can bring a few of them in a row. If you're busy in the cutting room or at the sewing machine, they wait for your next visit. The new level and its dress patterns are saved either way, and a small in-game notification confirms the change as soon as the game window is in front. Best Friends With Everyone is the quiet option: it skips the friendship moments, and the notification simply tells you how many new dress patterns are now in your sketchbook.
