</>What does Phase Step do?
Half the time you lose in the wastes is spent going around things. A river between you and the bounty marker. A ruined wall with the good loot behind it. A forest that funnels you into the one path the enemies are already watching. Phase Step deletes the long way round. Flip on Walk Through Walls and your wizard stops bumping into the world. You walk through stone, through tree trunks, through your own half-built base, through water, straight across terrain that normally forces a long way round. Point yourself at where you actually want to be and go there in a straight line. It is also the fastest fix in the game for getting wedged into scenery, because there is nothing left to be wedged on. While it is on, the game also stops shoving you back onto solid ground, which has a happy side effect: open void becomes walkable. You can cut clean across the gaps that normally end a run. That is a genuine shortcut, and it comes with one rule you need to respect. Turning Phase Step off while you are standing over open void hands you straight back to the game's normal rules, and the normal rule for standing over nothing is that you fall. Get back on solid ground before you switch it off. It also takes care of itself across a session. Load a save and Phase Step quietly puts itself back on, so you never have to toggle anything twice. Switch it off on solid ground and everything is exactly as it was. You bump into the world again, everything blocks you the way it always did, and nothing is left behind. One note on what this is not: Wizard with a Gun is played from above, so there is no up or down to move through. Phase Step is about walking through things beside you, not over them.
</>What is Phase Step?
Phase Step deletes the long way round in Wizard with a Gun. Walls, trees, your own half-built base and rivers all stop stopping you, so you point at where you want to be and go there in a straight line. Open void becomes walkable too, and getting wedged in scenery stops being a thing. A free mod from ProjectMods, the community-first modding app for 400+ PC games.
</>Common questions about Phase Step
What does Phase Step do in Wizard with a Gun?
Phase Step stops the world blocking you in Wizard with a Gun. With Walk Through Walls on, you stroll through stone, tree trunks, buildings, your own half-built base and water, straight across terrain that normally forces a long detour. A river between you and the bounty marker stops mattering, and so does a ruined wall with the good loot behind it. Point yourself at where you actually want to be and go there in a straight line. Switch it off on solid ground and your wizard bumps into the world again, with nothing left behind.
Can I cross open void with Phase Step on?
Yes, and it is one of the best things about it. With Phase Step on, Wizard with a Gun stops shoving you back onto solid ground, so open void becomes walkable and you can cut clean across gaps that normally end a run. That comes with one rule you need to respect. Turning the mod off while you are standing over open void hands you straight back to the game's normal rules, and the normal rule for standing over nothing is that you fall. Get back on solid ground before you switch it off.
Does Phase Step fix getting stuck in scenery?
It is the fastest fix in the game for it. Getting wedged into a rock, a doorway or a piece of your own base is a very Wizard with a Gun problem, and with Phase Step on there is nothing left to be wedged on, so you flip the switch, walk out of whatever had you, and flip it off again once you are clear. It also prevents the problem during a building session, where half-placed walls and awkward corners are the usual culprits. Nothing about your character is changed permanently by the trip.
Do I have to switch it on again after loading a save?
No. Loading a save in Wizard with a Gun drops you back in with a fresh wizard, and Phase Step puts itself straight back on whenever that happens, so you never have to toggle anything twice or wonder whether it is still on. That also means it survives the usual session rhythm of quitting out and coming back later. The one thing to keep in mind is where you are standing when you decide to turn it off, since the void rule still applies after a reload exactly as it did before one.
Can Phase Step take me over obstacles as well as through them?
No. Wizard with a Gun is played from above, so there is no up or down to move through, and Phase Step is about walking through things beside you rather than over them. There is no flying in this game and the mod does not add any. What it gives you is a straight line on the ground: through walls, through trees, through water and across open void. If you want to walk across open void with damage protection as well, pair it with Warded Hide, since immunity on its own does not stop a fall.
What options does Phase Step include?
Walk Through Walls
Nothing in the world blocks you. Walk through stone, trees, buildings and water, and cross open void safely. Get back on solid ground before you turn it off.
Phase Step is a free ProjectMods mod for Wizard with a Gun that lets you walk straight through walls, trees, buildings, water and rubble, and cross open void safely while it is switched on.
System Requirements
What features does Phase Step include?
- Walks you straight through stone, trees, buildings, water and your own half-built base.
- Makes open void walkable, so the gaps that normally end a run turn into shortcuts.
- Frees you instantly when you get wedged into scenery, because there is nothing left to wedge on.
- Puts itself back on after you load a save, so you never have to toggle it twice.
- Needs you on solid ground before you switch it off - turn it off over open void and you fall.
Best For
- A river sitting between you and the bounty marker with no crossing anywhere in sight.
- Good loot walled off behind ruins you would otherwise have to blast your way into.
- A forest that funnels you down the one path the enemies in the area are already watching.
- Getting stuck in your own base mid-build and not wanting to reload the save over it.
- Cutting straight across the map to a screenshot spot on the far side of a void gap.
