</>What does Haunted Aisles (Items Fight Back) do?
Picking things up off the floor is the one job in Better Chaos that never fights back. Haunted Aisles changes that for Halloween. Switch on Enabled and any item lying within 3.5 metres of you slides away as you approach, faster the closer you get. Creep Speed sets the pace, from 20 to 200 centimetres a second in steps of 10, with 60 to start. Items Jump Off Shelves is off by default. Turn it on and the shelves join in: every so often an item near you drops back to the floor, with Jump Every Seconds setting the gap from 5 to 120 seconds, 20 to start. Switch Enabled off and everything stops where it is. Nothing is put back.
</>What is Haunted Aisles (Items Fight Back)?
For Halloween, Haunted Aisles gives the mess in Better Chaos a mind of its own. With Enabled on, items on the floor back away from you at a Creep Speed between 20 and 200, and Items Jump Off Shelves can unshelve stock around you every 5 to 120 seconds, set by Jump Every Seconds. It only ever makes the work harder, and switching it off leaves the store as the haunting left it.
</>Common questions about Haunted Aisles (Items Fight Back)
What does Haunted Aisles do in Better Chaos?
It makes the mess fight back. Items on the floor slide away as you come near and, if you want, shelves near you shed stock as well, so a map you know by heart becomes a chase again. It's a Halloween challenge, and it never makes the job easier.
How fast do items move at a given Creep Speed?
Creep Speed is the speed of an item about 1.2 metres from you. Closer than that it moves faster, up to one and a half times the setting right at your feet; further out it slows, and at 3.5 metres it stops. At the default of 60 the top speed is 90 centimetres a second, and at 200 it's 3 metres a second. Stand still and everything nearby backs off to about 3.5 metres and waits there.
Why don't items jump off as often as Jump Every Seconds says?
Because a turn can come up empty. When the timer comes round, Haunted Aisles picks shelves at random from the whole store and knocks one item off the first that's both stocked and within 25 metres of you. It gives up after 12 picks, so on a big map, or early on when the shelves around you are bare, some turns pass with nothing. Changing Jump Every Seconds mid-wait only takes effect from the next turn.
Can items end up somewhere I can't reach?
They can get awkward, but they won't wander off. Items slide in a straight line and nothing in the way stops them, so one can end up tucked into a shelf unit. They never sink below the floor, though, and Haunted Aisles won't push anything more than about 3 metres past the store's outermost shelves.
Will a haunted run still count on the leaderboards?
Yes. Haunted Aisles never speeds anything up, so it never holds a time back. Finish a map with the aisles haunted and the run posts to that map's best-time leaderboard like any other. Only mods that can make a run quicker keep a session off the boards.

System Requirements
What features does Haunted Aisles (Items Fight Back) include?
- Items always run directly away from you, so you can herd them: to push one north, walk at it from the south.
- Up to 24 items move at once, so a big heap breaks up a couple of dozen at a time rather than scattering in one go.
- A jumped item lands about 1 to 3 metres in front of its own shelf, and that shelf's label drops by one.
Best For
- It's October and the store should feel like it. Switch on Enabled at the default Creep Speed and watch the floor clear out in front of you.
- You could shelve Map 1's 5,561 items in your sleep. Set Creep Speed to 100 and every pickup turns into a short chase again.
- After Hours has the lights off and you want it worse. Turn on Items Jump Off Shelves with Jump Every Seconds at 10, and the shelves you've just finished start shedding stock in the dark.
- Someone watching over your shoulder wants chaos: Creep Speed 200 and a jump every 5 seconds. Switch Enabled off once the joke has run its course and tidy up what's left.
- You'd like a haunting that creeps up on you rather than a circus. Leave Creep Speed at 20 and turn on Items Jump Off Shelves with Jump Every Seconds at 120, so the store only twitches now and then.
