</>What does Store Clock (Game Speed) do?
Clearing 32,162 items on Map 3 takes a long evening even when every trip counts. Some nights you'd rather the store just ran faster, and some moments deserve slow motion: the end of a big combo, a shelf you keep fumbling. Switch on Enabled and set Game Speed anywhere from 0.25 to 3.0 in steps of 0.05, where 1.0 is the game's normal pace and 2.0 is double. It starts at 1.5: quick enough to notice, not so quick it feels frantic. Everything in the store follows the dial, you included. Switch Enabled off and the clock goes straight back to 1.0, with nothing to reload.
</>What is Store Clock (Game Speed)?
Better Chaos runs at one pace, and on a big map the walking between aisles adds up. Store Clock puts one dial on the whole game: switch on Enabled, set Game Speed between 0.25 and 3.0, and movement, animations and power timers all follow it. Push it up to rush a big map or pull it down for careful placing. It never changes your money, items, power levels or saves.
</>Common questions about Store Clock (Game Speed)
What does Store Clock do in Better Chaos?
It changes how fast time passes in the store. Turn it up and a big map goes by quicker; turn it down and every moment lasts longer. You move with the clock, so the game plays exactly as it always does, only faster or slower.
Does Game Speed change how long my powers last?
In real time, yes. In game time, no. At 2.0 a power runs out in half the real time, but you and the store are moving twice as fast too, so it covers the same amount of tidying it always did. Cooldowns follow the same rule: the wait between uses is shorter in real time and unchanged in game time. Below 1.0 everything stretches the other way.
Why are my times off the leaderboards when I only slowed the game down?
Because any change to the clock changes what a map time means. With Enabled on, at any Game Speed, even 1.0, the rest of that game session stays off the global leaderboards, and switching it off partway doesn't win the session back. Restart Better Chaos and leave Store Clock off for a run you want on the board.
Does Store Clock speed up Aisle Autopilot too?
No. Aisle Autopilot shelves at its own Items Per Second, counted in real seconds, so at Game Speed 3.0 it keeps the same pace while everything around it hurries up. Slow the game to 0.25 and it doesn't slow down with you either. To shelve more per minute, raise Items Per Second instead.
What options does Store Clock (Game Speed) include?
Enabled
Changes the speed of the whole game. Turn it off to go back to normal speed.
Game Speed
1.0 is normal speed, 0.5 is half speed and 2.0 is double speed.
Store Clock is a ProjectMods mod for Better Chaos that speeds the whole game up or slows it down, from a quarter of normal speed to three times it, with everything kept in step.
System Requirements
What features does Store Clock (Game Speed) include?
- Your walking, every animation and the timers on your powers all run on the one clock, so nothing drifts out of step.
- Store Clock checks the clock four times a second, so a new Game Speed lands almost at once and your setting comes back by itself after you load another map.
- Slow motion is a real setting: at 0.25 every second of game time takes four of yours.
Best For
- The end of Map 2 is long walks between a few stragglers. Switch on Enabled at the default 1.5 and get through it in two-thirds of the time.
- Recording a full Map 1 clear for a video: Game Speed 3.0 turns 5,561 placements into something people will sit through.
- Confetti Cannon's bursts are over in a blink. Set Game Speed to 0.25 and watch one drift down in slow motion.
- Radioactive item has lit up the items that match yours and you want to plan a route before it fades: drop Game Speed to 0.5 for twice the real time to think.
