Some items end up where nobody on foot can follow: on top of a tall shelf unit, behind a display, down a gap you can see into but can't squeeze through. Mall Ghost takes you off the floor and switches collision off, so none of that is in your way any more. Switch on Enabled and you're flying. Space takes you up, left Ctrl or C brings you down, and your movement keys steer as usual. Fly Speed Multiplier sets how fast you go as a multiple of your walking speed, from 1.0 to 6.0 in steps of 0.1, starting at 2.0. Switch Enabled off and collision and normal walking come back. Flying counts as an advantage, so that session's map times stay off the global leaderboards until you restart Better Chaos.

Mall Ghost is for the Better Chaos items you can see but can't reach on foot. Switch on Enabled and you leave the ground with collision off, steering with the keys you already use, then set Fly Speed Multiplier anywhere from 1.0 to 6.0 times your walking pace. It never moves or places items for you, and switching it off puts you straight back on your feet.

What does Mall Ghost do in Better Chaos?

It lets you fly, with collision off. You can go straight through shelving, walls and floors to reach items stuck where no shopper on foot could get them, or cut across a big map in a straight line instead of following the aisles round.

How fast does 6.0 actually go?

Six times whatever you walk at right now, because Fly Speed Multiplier works from your current walking speed and Mall Ghost rechecks it four times a second. Buying Run levels makes you fly faster too, and so does Aisle Sprinter, which raises the same walking speed: its Walk Speed Multiplier at 4.0 with Fly Speed Multiplier at 6.0 is 24 times your normal pace. For fiddly work in a tight gap, 1.0 to 2.0 is much easier to control.

What happens if I switch it off in mid-air?

You drop from exactly where you are. Collision comes back on the spot, even if you're inside a shelf unit or under the floor at the time, so come down over open floor first: hold left Ctrl or C until you're just above an aisle, then switch Enabled off.

Can I change the keys for going up and down?

No, Mall Ghost always reads Space for up and left Ctrl or C for down, straight from the keyboard, and right Ctrl does nothing. Rebinding Jump or Crouch with Comfort Controls won't move them. If Comfort Controls has you on arrow keys, the arrows steer you through the air while Space and left Ctrl or C still handle height.

Let go of the keys and you stop almost at once and hover, which makes lining up with an item on a high shelf easy.
Load another store with Enabled still on and you arrive already flying.
Nothing in the store changes. Items, shelves, money and your save are exactly as you left them.

Best For

An item is sitting on top of a tall shelf unit, well beyond any jump. Switch on Enabled, hold Space until you're level with it and grab it.
The last item on Map 3 is on the far side of the store. Push Fly Speed Multiplier to 6.0 and cross in a straight line, over every aisle in between.
Something has slid into a gap between two shelf units that's too narrow to walk into. Drop Fly Speed Multiplier to 1.0 and go in through the shelving.
Before you start on Map 2, rise above the shelving for a look at where the mess is worst, then come down over an empty aisle and switch Enabled off.
