</>What does Gibbon Arms (Extended Reach) do?
A lot of Big Walk is fiddling with things - lifting something off a shelf, leaning on a switch, or pointing at a thing across the way so your friend finally looks at the right bit of the landscape. Gibbon Arms stretches all of that. Everything you could grab or press before, you can now grab or press from considerably further back, and your pointing gets the same treatment - so gesturing at a distant peak actually reads as pointing at the peak. It is a small change that makes fiddly puzzles a lot less fiddly, especially the ones where you are trying to line something up while balanced on something else. Wind it up as far as you like. Turn it off and your arms go back to a normal length.
</>What is Gibbon Arms (Extended Reach)?
Gibbon Arms scales how far you can reach in Big Walk — grabbing, pressing and pointing all stretch together, upward as well as forward, so shelves and high switches come into range. Fiddly puzzles stop needing precise footing, and gesturing at a distant peak actually reads as pointing at it. One of the ProjectMods mods for Big Walk. Turn it off whenever you want a normal arm's length back.
</>Common questions about Gibbon Arms (Extended Reach)
What does Gibbon Arms do in Big Walk?
Gibbon Arms extends how far you can reach in Big Walk. Everything you could grab or press before, you can now grab or press from considerably further back — and your pointing gets the same treatment, so gesturing at something across the valley actually reads as pointing at it. Reaching upward scales alongside reaching forward, which brings shelves and high switches into range without needing to climb onto something first. One percentage slider handles all of it. Only your own reach changes, and your arms go back to a normal length the moment you switch the mod off.
Does Gibbon Arms change pointing as well as grabbing?
Yes, and that is half the point of it. In Big Walk, telling a friend where to look is most of the conversation, and the normal pointing range means a gesture at a far-off peak often does not register on anything. Gibbon Arms scales the distance at which pointing lands by the same amount as your grab reach, so when you point at the mountain, you are pointing at the mountain rather than vaguely at the air in front of it. It makes group navigation noticeably easier: one person spots something, points, and everyone else actually sees what they mean.
Can I reach things above me, or only straight ahead?
Both. Gibbon Arms scales upward reach alongside forward reach, so the shelf just above your head and the switch on the high wall come into range at the same time as the object across the room. That matters in Big Walk because a lot of its fiddliest moments involve being at the wrong height rather than the wrong distance — balanced on something, trying to line up with a thing slightly out of range. With reach extended, you can stand comfortably on the floor and still operate what you are looking at. Only your own reach changes, so nobody else's arms are affected.
How far can the Reach Multiplier go?
Reach Multiplier is a percentage of Big Walk's normal arm's length, with 100 being stock. Around 300 puts you comfortably across a room, which is where the mod starts you off — enough to stop puzzles being fiddly without making the island feel weightless. Push it to 1000 and you are reaching across a field, grabbing things you can barely see and pointing at landmarks on the far ridge. There is no separate slider for pointing or for upward reach; the one value scales all of them together, so you only ever have one number to think about.
When is Gibbon Arms most useful on a walk?
On the puzzles, mostly. Big Walk asks you to lift things off shelves, lean on switches and line objects up while balanced somewhere awkward, and a longer reach quietly removes the footwork from all of it. It is also handy when a group splits up: you can operate something on one side of a gap while a friend handles the other, without both of you crowding the same spot. And it turns pointing into a real navigation tool, which is worth having on an island this size. Turn it off whenever you want a normal arm's length back.
What options does Gibbon Arms (Extended Reach) include?
Reach Multiplier
How far you can reach, as a percentage of normal. 100 is stock, 300 is comfortably across a room, 1000 is across a field.
Gibbon Arms Enabled
Master switch. Turn off to go back to a normal arm's length.
Gibbon Arms stretches how far you can reach in Big Walk, so objects, switches and pointing gestures all register from much further away. One of the ProjectMods mods built for Big Walk.
System Requirements
What features does Gibbon Arms (Extended Reach) include?
- Stretches your reach on a percentage slider - 300 is comfortably across a room, 1000 is across a field.
- Scales upward reach alongside it, so high shelves and switches above your head come into range too.
- Extends your pointing as well, so gesturing at a distant peak actually reads as pointing at the peak.
- Makes fiddly puzzle work far less fiddly, because you no longer need perfect footing to line something up.
- Snaps back to a normal arm's length on switch-off, and only ever changes your own reach.
Best For
- The puzzles where you are balanced on something wobbly, trying to press a switch you can nearly touch.
- Telling a friend to look at THAT rock and having the game agree with you about which rock you mean.
- Lifting the thing off the high shelf without the two-minute detour to find something to stand on first.
- Players who would rather solve the puzzle than fight the footwork it takes to get into position for it.
- Retrieving the object that rolled somewhere awkward instead of everyone taking turns to fish for it.
