</>What does Knife Skills do?
Chopping is where Overcooked quietly eats your time. Every salad, every burrito, every burger starts with somebody rooted to a board tapping a button while the rest of the kitchen falls apart around them. Knife Skills turns that whole job into a single tap. Walk up, chop once, and the ingredient is finished and ready to move. It works on everything the board accepts, and it is especially good in solo play, where you are covering the whole kitchen yourself and every second parked at the board is a second nothing else is getting done. The prepped item still comes out exactly as the game intends, so recipes, plating and scoring all behave normally. You just stop losing half the round to the cutting board.
</>What is Knife Skills?
Chopping quietly eats a huge chunk of every Overcooked round. Knife Skills turns every ingredient into a single tap at the board, so salads, burgers and burritos stop rooting one chef in place while the rest of the kitchen falls apart. Especially strong in solo play. Free mod from ProjectMods, the community-first PC mod manager for 400+ games.
</>Common questions about Knife Skills
What does Knife Skills do in Overcooked?
Knife Skills turns every chopping job in Overcooked into a single tap. Walk up to the cutting board with an ingredient, chop once, and it is finished and ready to move, instead of standing there working through a long stack of chops while the rest of the kitchen falls apart behind you. It works on everything the board accepts, so lettuce, tomatoes, meat, fish and the rest all come off in one go. The prepped item still comes out exactly as the game intends, so recipes, plating and scoring all behave normally. You just stop losing half the round to prep.
How does One Chop Prep change the flow of a round?
It moves the bottleneck. In normal Overcooked, the cutting board is where a chef gets rooted in place, and a level with three chopped ingredients per order effectively takes one of your cooks out of circulation. With Knife Skills on, prep becomes a stop of about a second, so the same chef can chop, carry, plate and come back for the next thing. What is left is the interesting part of the game: routing, hand-offs, and keeping the pan and the sink covered. Levels that felt like a chopping queue start playing like the logistics puzzle they were always meant to be.
Does Knife Skills help more in solo play?
It does. Playing alone means swapping between two chefs and covering the whole kitchen yourself, so every second spent parked at the cutting board is a second when nothing else is moving. Prep ends up eating a bigger share of a solo round than a co-op one, simply because there is nobody else to pick up the slack while you chop. Knife Skills flattens that entirely. One tap finishes the ingredient regardless of how many players are at the table, so solo runs stop being dominated by the board and the time goes straight back into cooking, plating and washing. Couch co-op benefits too, just by a smaller margin.
Is there a way to turn One Chop Prep off?
Yes. Knife Skills is a single clean toggle called One Chop Prep, so it is on when you want it and completely absent when you do not. Switch it off and Overcooked goes straight back to full-length chopping with no leftover effect on your kitchen. That makes it easy to use selectively. Leave it on for the world that keeps beating you, then turn it off for a run you want to be genuinely hard, or for a session with friends who would rather play the game unmodified. Nothing about your stars, saves or unlocks changes either way.
Which Overcooked recipes benefit most from Knife Skills?
Anything with several prepped components. Salads are the obvious one, since every ingredient goes through the board and nothing goes near a pan, but burgers, burritos and fish dishes all stack chopping on top of cooking and plating. Those are the orders that create the queue at the board while pans sit unattended. Knife Skills also shines in the kitchens where the cutting board is somewhere awkward, across a gap, on a moving section, or on the wrong side of a split level, because you no longer have to stay parked at it once you have made the trip.
