</>What does Crit Storm do?
Crit Storm is the trinket run you never quite get. Instead of praying the right drops appear, you set the odds yourself. Critical Chance decides how often your shots land as crits. Fire Chance sets things alight. Freeze Chance locks them in place. Bounce Chance sends your shots ricocheting into whatever is behind the first target. Each one is a plain percentage and each is added on top of whatever your run has already earned, so a trinket you pick up later still stacks with it rather than being wasted. Push crit to the ceiling and add a little fire and the screen turns into a fireworks display. Nudge it gently instead and you simply get the run you wanted without the grind.

</>Common questions about Crit Storm
What does Crit Storm do in Ship of Fools?
Crit Storm lets you set your own luck in Ship of Fools. Four sliders decide how often your shots land as critical hits, set the target alight, freeze it in place, or ricochet off into whatever is standing behind it. Normally those effects come from trinkets you have to be lucky enough to find, which is why some runs sing and most do not. Crit Storm skips the lottery and hands you the dials directly, in plain percentages you can nudge or push. Set them low for a quiet leg-up that still feels like the base game, or push crit and fire together and watch the screen turn into a fireworks display.
What do the Fire, Freeze and Bounce sliders do to a shot?
Each of Crit Storm's sliders adds a different effect to shots that would otherwise just do damage in Ship of Fools. Fire Chance decides how often a hit sets the target alight, so it keeps taking damage after the shot has landed. Freeze Chance locks the target in place, which is the most useful one defensively because a frozen enemy is not swinging at your hull. Bounce Chance sends the shot ricocheting onto another target after the first, which turns a single well-aimed cannonball into two or three hits when a formation lines up neatly. Critical Chance sits alongside them and simply decides how often a shot lands for a lot more than usual.
Do I need to find a fire or freeze trinket before those Crit Storm sliders work?
No. Crit Storm adds its percentages on top of whatever your Ship of Fools run has already earned, starting from zero if that is where you are. So you can raise Fire Chance on the very first island, before you have seen a single fire trinket, and your shots will start setting things alight. This is worth knowing because it is the opposite of how a lot of boosts behave: anything that multiplies your existing luck does nothing at all when your existing luck is zero. Crit Storm avoids that entirely. And because it adds rather than replaces, a trinket you pick up two sectors later still stacks on top of your setting.
How high should I set the Crit Storm sliders?
Lower than you think, at least to start. Because Crit Storm's percentages are added to whatever your Ship of Fools run already has, even a modest number changes how a fight reads, and a small bump to Critical Chance alone is often enough to make a sector that kept beating you feel fair. From there, the interesting part is combining them. Crit plus Fire gives you big hits that keep burning; Freeze plus Bounce locks down a whole formation at once. If you want spectacle rather than balance, push everything to the ceiling and enjoy the mess. Each slider is independent, and the master switch puts everything back to ordinary luck instantly.
Why use Crit Storm instead of just hunting for the trinkets?
Because the trinkets are a lottery and Ship of Fools runs are long. You can play well for forty minutes, reach the stretch you actually wanted to test yourself against, and find the game has handed you nothing that suits the build you had in mind. Crit Storm lets you decide the shape of the run up front and then go and play it. It is also the fastest way to see what a maxed-out effect build actually feels like without the hours of drops it would normally take. And because your settings stack with real trinkets rather than replacing them, finding a good one still matters.
