</>What does Ghost Walker do?
Ghost Walker takes the walls away. Switch it on and you lift off the boards, drift wherever you like, and pass through railings, masts, hulls and scenery as though none of it were there. Steer with WASD, rise with E, drop with Ctrl, and hold Shift for a burst of speed. The drift speed is yours to set, from a slow float for lining up a screenshot to a proper dash when you want to get somewhere. Best of all, you still sail with the ship. Drift out over the water and the Stormstrider carries on beneath you exactly as it should, so you can hang off the bow mid-voyage and watch the storm roll in. There is a Solid Drift option if you would rather float but still land on things. And when you switch the mod off out over open water, you get put back on deck rather than dropped in the sea.

Ghost Walker takes the walls away in Ship of Fools. Switch it on and you lift off the boards, drift wherever you like with WASD, and pass through railings, masts, hulls and scenery as though none of it were there. The detail that matters most on a sailing game: you drift along with the ship, so the Stormstrider carries on beneath you exactly as it should and you can hang off the bow watching the storm roll in. Switch it off out over open water and you are put back on the deck rather than dropped in the sea, and a Solid Drift option lets you float while keeping the world solid.
</>Common questions about Ghost Walker
What does Ghost Walker do in Ship of Fools?
Ghost Walker takes the walls away in Ship of Fools. Switch it on and you lift off the boards, drift wherever you like, and pass straight through railings, masts, hulls and scenery as though none of it were there. Steering is on the usual movement keys with a rise and a drop, and you set how fast you travel. The part that makes it work on a sailing game is that you drift along with the ship: the Stormstrider keeps moving beneath you exactly as it should, so you can hang off the bow mid-voyage and watch the storm roll in rather than being left hovering over empty water.
Does the ship sail away without me while I am drifting?
No, and that is the hardest part of building a free-flight mod for a game set on a moving boat. Most flight mods hold you at a fixed point in the world, which works fine on land and falls apart in Ship of Fools, because the Stormstrider is constantly sailing forward. You would drift up two metres and watch your own ship disappear towards the horizon without you. Ghost Walker carries the boat's movement with you, so floating above the deck behaves the way you would expect: the ship stays underneath you, your crewmate stays in view, and you can drift out over the water alongside the hull while the voyage carries on.
What happens if I turn Ghost Walker off while I am out over the water?
You get put back on the deck rather than dropped in the sea. Switching Ghost Walker off in Ship of Fools while you are hovering somewhere the game never intended you to stand would normally mean a long fall into the water, so the mod sets you down on the Stormstrider instead, standing normally and solid again. That means you can drift out to look at something, decide you are done, and flip the toggle without having to fly all the way back first. It is a small thing, but it turns Ghost Walker from a mod you have to be careful with into one you can switch on and off casually mid-run.
How do I steer Ghost Walker, and can I change how fast I drift?
In Ship of Fools, Ghost Walker steers on WASD, with E to lift you higher, Ctrl to drop you down, and Shift held for a burst of speed when you want to cover ground quickly. On top of that there is a Drift Speed slider, so you can set your normal pace anywhere from a slow float to a proper dash. Slow is what you want for lining up a screenshot of the Stormstrider under full sail, or getting a close look at a sector you keep sailing past. Fast is what you want when you have spotted something on the far side of the map and would like to be there now.
What is the Solid Drift option for?
Solid Drift keeps the floating and gives you the world back. With it on you still lift off the deck and steer freely around Ship of Fools, but railings, masts, the hull and the scenery are solid again, so you can land on things and stand where you put yourself. It is the option to reach for when you want a better vantage point rather than a tour of the map, such as perching up by the mast to watch a fight play out, or setting up a shot for a video without accidentally sinking through the deck. Full Ghost Walker is better for exploring; Solid Drift is better for staying somewhere.
