What does the 2x to 50x slider in Big Brain control?
The slider sets a single multiplier that is applied to two Upload Labs attributes at once: research_multiplier (how many research points each completed bar awards) and research_speed_multiplier (how fast each research bar fills). At 2x, research is twice as fast and twice as productive. At 50x, both are scaled by fifty. Because both attributes move together, the effective research-per-second is the slider value squared — 10x on the slider produces roughly 100x effective research throughput. Start low if you want to feel the curve build, or push toward 50x if you are trying to finish a research-gated milestone quickly.
Which two Upload Labs attributes does Big Brain actually modify?
Big Brain hooks the simulation's research_multiplier and research_speed_multiplier attributes and scales both by the same slider value. research_multiplier controls how many points each finished research bar drops into your total. research_speed_multiplier controls how quickly each bar fills toward completion. The mod does not touch your money, your subscriber count, your GPU count, or any other attribute — it only changes how loudly each research tick lands and how often it lands. When you toggle the mod off, both attributes reverse cleanly back to their vanilla values, so saves remain stable and progress made under the boost is preserved without any lingering modifier.
How is Big Brain different from Research Flood?
Research Flood grants research points directly as a one-shot injection — it does not care whether you own any hardware, it just hands you the resource. Big Brain works differently: it amplifies the simulation's own research tick, so you still need to own GPUs and let the game run for the boost to do anything. If you have zero GPUs, Big Brain produces zero research, because there is nothing to multiply. The trade-off is that Big Brain scales with your setup. A late-game lab with hundreds of GPUs under Big Brain will out-produce repeated Research Flood grants very quickly.
Do I need to own GPUs for Big Brain to work?
Yes. Big Brain multiplies the per-tick output and speed of research that is already happening, so it requires at least one GPU actively contributing to research in your Upload Labs save. Any GPU tier the game offers will benefit — the multiplier is applied to the tick, not to a specific GPU model — but a larger fleet means more ticks per second, which compounds with the speed multiplier. If you are running Big Brain at 50x and seeing no movement, check that your GPUs are powered, assigned, and not bottlenecked by another resource the base game tracks alongside research.

Research Flood pairs with Big Brain when you want both a one-shot catch-up grant and a sustained boost — pop Research Flood to clear a stuck milestone, then let Big Brain carry the ongoing curve.
