</>What does Aqua Viking (Water Equipment) do?
Nothing ruins a Viking's day quite like accidentally stepping into waist-deep water and watching your character awkwardly put away their weapon while a Draugr winds up a haymaker. Aqua Viking fixes that nonsense by letting you keep all your gear equipped while swimming. Swords, bows, hammers, pickaxes, fishing rods — everything stays in your hands where it belongs. Build a dock while treading water. Chop a tree from a river. Fight sea serpents with actual weapons instead of your bare fists and a prayer. Water was never supposed to be a safe zone for your enemies.
</>What is Aqua Viking (Water Equipment)?
Aqua Viking is a ProjectMods mod for Valheim that removes the forced gear-stow when your Viking enters water. Swing swords mid-river, fire bows at sea serpents, mine from shallows, and build out over the ocean without ever holstering. </>Common questions about Aqua Viking (Water Equipment)
What does Aqua Viking do in Valheim?
Aqua Viking is a ProjectMods mod for Valheim that lets your Viking keep every weapon, tool, and piece of equipment in hand while swimming. Vanilla Valheim auto-stows whatever you're holding the moment you step into waist-deep water, leaving you defenseless against serpents, drowned draugr, and anything else that ambushes you off a beach. With Aqua Viking enabled, swords, bows, hammers, pickaxes, fishing rods, and harpoons all stay out and usable in the ocean, in rivers, and in swamp pools. The ocean stops being a forced disarmament zone and starts being just another biome your Viking can fight, chop, mine, and build in. Toggle it off and vanilla swim behavior comes back instantly.
Can I actually fight sea serpents with a sword now?
Yes. With Aqua Viking active in Valheim, every melee weapon stays equipped while your Viking is treading water, so you can swing a sword, axe, mace, or polearm at a serpent that breaches next to your longship or chases you back to shore. Bows and crossbows also stay drawn in the water, which makes serpent hunting from a swim genuinely viable for the first time. You can also harpoon a serpent, jump overboard, and finish it from the water instead of awkwardly paddling back to the boat. The vanilla damage values, stamina costs, and skill XP all behave normally — you're just no longer locked out of using your gear the moment you get wet.
Does Aqua Viking work for building and gathering too, not just combat?
Yes. Aqua Viking in Valheim covers every equippable item your Viking can carry, not just weapons. The hammer stays out while swimming, so you can place pieces over water to build docks, bridges, and floating bases without scrambling back to dry land between each placement. The cultivator works in shallow water for shore farming, the pickaxe lets you mine partially submerged copper or tin nodes from the side, and the fishing rod stays in hand if you decide to swim out to a better casting spot. Tool-based skill XP (Wood Cutting, Pickaxes, Crafting) accumulates exactly as it would on land — the mod only changes equip behavior, never the underlying skill or build system.
Does Aqua Viking change swim speed, stamina drain, or drowning?
No. Aqua Viking only changes one thing in Valheim: whether your Viking can keep gear equipped while in water. Swim speed, stamina drain rate, the Swim skill, the rested buff interaction, and the eventual drowning timer when stamina hits zero all stay completely vanilla. You'll still drain stamina faster while wearing heavy armor, you'll still need to surface for air on long crossings, and the Swim skill still levels by spending time in the water. If you want infinite stamina for ocean marathons, pair Aqua Viking with Viking Toolbox in the ProjectMods launcher — Aqua Viking handles equipment, Viking Toolbox handles the stamina bar.
When would I actually use Aqua Viking in a normal Valheim run?
Aqua Viking shines anytime water is involved in your Valheim session, which in this game is constantly. Sailing with a friend and a serpent breaches — both of you can shoot it from the deck or the water without scrambling to swap gear. Mining a copper node that sits in a shoreline puddle — you stay armed in case a Greydwarf swarm shows up. Building out over a river or out to sea — you keep the hammer in hand the whole time. Diving to retrieve a corpse that sank with all your iron — you go in with weapons drawn. Returning players and content creators especially love it because it removes one of the most frustrating "wait, why can't I attack" moments in the game.
