How do I install After Hours (Lights-Out Challenge)?
Download the free ProjectMods desktop app, then install After Hours (Lights-Out Challenge) for Better Chaos in one click.
</>What does After Hours (Lights-Out Challenge) do?
Every store in Better Chaos is lit up like midday and stays that way. After Hours closes it for the night. Switch on Enabled and every light goes out, the sky and the sun with it. The game isn't allowed to brighten the picture to make up for it either, so the dark doesn't lift however long you stand in it. All you have is a flashlight fixed to your view. Flashlight Brightness sets how strong it is, from 1000 to 40000 in steps of 500 (it starts at 8000). Switch Enabled off and the lights come back on, the flashlight goes and the picture adjusts itself as normal again, all without a reload.
</>What is After Hours (Lights-Out Challenge)?
Better Chaos has no night-time and no dimmer switch, so After Hours brings its own. Turn on Enabled for a pitch-black store, then choose your beam with Flashlight Brightness, from a faint 1000 up to 40000. It only deals in light: items, shelves, money and combos work exactly as they do with the lights on, and nothing about the dark is written to your save.
</>Common questions about After Hours (Lights-Out Challenge)
What does After Hours do in Better Chaos?
It switches the store's lights off and leaves you to finish the job by flashlight. Shelves you'd normally spot from the end of an aisle now have to be found one sweep of the beam at a time, which makes a familiar map hard work again and turns a Halloween evening into something properly creepy.
How far does the flashlight reach?
About 40 metres, whatever the brightness. Flashlight Brightness changes how strong the beam is rather than how far it can go, so at the low end you'll be walking right up to a shelf to make it out, and near 40000 a good stretch of the aisle ahead of you lights up.
Can I switch the flashlight off and play in total darkness?
No. Flashlight Brightness bottoms out at 1000, and the flashlight only goes away when you switch Enabled off, which brings the store's lights back at the same moment. There's no in-game key for either. If 1000 still feels like too much help, add Blind Run and take the shelf labels away too.
Do lights-out runs still count on the leaderboards?
Yes. After Hours only makes a run harder, so it never holds a time back from the global leaderboards. What can stop a time posting is a mod that makes runs easier, such as a speed or carry boost. Once one of those has been switched on, every time from that game session stays off the boards, even after you switch it off again and even in the dark. Quit Better Chaos, start it again with only the challenge mods on, and your lights-out runs post like any other.
Will switching it off light up corners that are meant to be dark?
No. After Hours only puts out lights that were on when it found them, and those are the only ones it turns back on. Anything the game already had switched off stays off, so the store comes back exactly as it was, within half a second.
What options does After Hours (Lights-Out Challenge) include?
Flashlight Brightness
How bright your flashlight is.
Enabled
Turns off every light in the store and hands you a flashlight. Turn it off to bring the lights back.
After Hours is a ProjectMods mod for Better Chaos that switches off every light in the store and gives you a flashlight to sort by, for a Halloween night shift or a harder run through a map you know.
System Requirements
What features does After Hours (Lights-Out Challenge) include?
- Every light goes dark together: the ceiling lights, the sky and the sun.
- The picture's automatic brightness is locked, so an aisle looks as dark after ten minutes as it did after ten seconds.
- Flashlight Brightness updates within half a second, so you can tune the beam without stopping what you're doing.
- Load another map with it on and that store goes dark as well, with a new flashlight ready for you.
Best For
- It's Halloween and the store is far too cheerful. Switch on Enabled, drop Flashlight Brightness to 2000 and go looking for the Bakery aisle with a beam that only just does the job.
- You're streaming a spooky night. Leave Flashlight Brightness at its default 8000 so chat can see what you're holding while the aisles behind you stay black.
- Haunted Aisles already has the floor items creeping away as you get close. Put the lights out as well and you're chasing them round the store by flashlight.
- You could clear Map 1 half asleep by now. Run it again with the beam at 4000 and you'll be checking every shelf like it's your first day.
