</>What does Aisle Autopilot (Auto-Shelve Nearby Items) do?
Pick it up, find its shelf, put it down. Do that a few thousand times and it starts to feel like a real job. Aisle Autopilot does the carrying for you. Switch on Enabled and, while Better Chaos is the window you're in, the nearest floor item within Reach jumps into your hands and on to its shelf, then the next one, and the next. Reach covers 2 to 40 metres around you and starts at 8. Items Per Second sets the pace, from 1 to 20, with 4 to start. It uses the game's own pick-up and placement, so you hear the usual pick-up sound and every item pays out as if you'd carried it. Switch Enabled off and you're sorting by hand again, with everything it placed still on the shelves. Times set while it's on stay off the global leaderboards for the rest of that game session.
</>What is Aisle Autopilot (Auto-Shelve Nearby Items)?
Clearing a big Better Chaos map by hand means thousands of trips between the floor and the shelves. Aisle Autopilot makes those trips for you: switch on Enabled, set how far around you it works with Reach and how fast it goes with Items Per Second, then walk the aisles. It never uses your powers, never spends your money and never touches anything you've already shelved.
</>Common questions about Aisle Autopilot (Auto-Shelve Nearby Items)
What does Aisle Autopilot do in Better Chaos?
It takes the carrying out of sorting. You walk, and the items around you go into your hands and up onto their shelves one by one, so a messy aisle clears as you pass through. It's for the big maps, and for evenings when you'd rather watch the store fill up than haul every item yourself.
Why has it stopped shelving?
Usually because there's nothing it's allowed to place right now. Your hands may be full, in which case it carries on within two seconds of you freeing a space. The nearest items may belong to shelves that are already full; it skips those and tries each one again eight seconds later. Nothing on the floor may be inside Reach, so walk closer or raise it. Or you've clicked out of the game, and it only works while Better Chaos is the window in front.
Do the items it shelves count towards achievements?
Yes, all of them. The shelf places each item exactly as it would one of yours, so the counters keep climbing: Getting Organized at 500 items, Taking Shape at 10,000 and One Shelf at a Time at 250 finished shelves. New items go into the ChaoDex as well, and nothing gets counted twice.
I switched it off for the last aisle. Why didn't my time go on the leaderboard?
Because the hold covers the whole game session, from the moment Enabled goes on until you quit. Shelving up to 20 items a second isn't a fair race, so every time from that session stays off the global leaderboards, whatever you switch off later. Your money, placements and save are unaffected. For a run you want on the board, relaunch Better Chaos and leave the mod off from the start.
Will it find the last few items for me?
Only the ones within Reach of where you're standing. It shelves what's near you and never goes looking, so the last strays at the far end of the store stay put until you walk over to them. Spot Check is the mod for finding those: it can count what's left and highlight every remaining item.
What options does Aisle Autopilot (Auto-Shelve Nearby Items) include?
Reach
How far around you, in metres, items get picked up and shelved.
Items Per Second
How many items get shelved each second.
Enabled
Items around you fly onto their correct shelves on their own. Turn it off to sort by hand again.
Aisle Autopilot is a ProjectMods mod for Better Chaos that shelves the floor items near you automatically, so you can clear an aisle just by walking through it.
System Requirements
What features does Aisle Autopilot (Auto-Shelve Nearby Items) include?
- Every item goes to its one correct shelf, so you'll never see a Wrong shelf message from it.
- It leaves alone the item under your crosshair and anything your Item magnet is already pulling in, so it never snatches what you were about to grab.
- It handles one item at a time, so all it needs is a single free space in your hands.
Best For
- Map 3 would take all week by hand. Set Reach to 40 and Items Per Second to 20, walk down the middle of each aisle and watch the floor empty around you.
- You enjoy doing the shelving yourself but keep stepping over strays. Turn Reach down to 2 with Items Per Second at 1 and it quietly tidies whatever's at your feet.
- Clicking on every item for hours is hard on your hands. Leave Reach at 8 and Items Per Second at 4, the defaults, and all you do is steer.
- You'd like to carry your own armful while it works. Bottomless Basket raises your Carry Limit, so your hands rarely fill and Aisle Autopilot hardly ever has to wait.
