</>What does Skill Forge do?
That new recruit with terrible shooting and no crafting is a liability, and grinding skills up the honest way takes forever in RimWorld. Skill Forge lets you just set them where you want. Dial any colonist's skills to whatever level you need and light up their passions so they learn fast and love the work. Turn a clumsy wanderer into a master surgeon, make your gunner a dead-eye shot, give your builder the crafting chops to churn out top-quality gear. Refresh Colonists pulls up your current roster, you set the numbers, and Apply locks it in. Suddenly you've got the specialist team you always wanted instead of the random hand the game dealt you. Perfect for players who want to build a dream squad without the years of grind, and for rescuing a run where every recruit rolled useless. Tune one colonist for a specific job or overhaul the whole colony into a team of experts.
</>What is Skill Forge?
Skill Forge gives you full control over your RimWorld colonists' abilities. Pick any colonist, set each skill to the level you want, and switch their passions on, so a clumsy recruit becomes a master crafter or a legendary shooter in seconds. Build the exact team your colony needs. Free from ProjectMods, one-click install.
</>Common questions about Skill Forge
What does Skill Forge do in RimWorld?
Skill Forge lets you rewrite any colonist's abilities in RimWorld to whatever you need. Pick a pawn, set each of their skills — shooting, crafting, medicine, construction, and the rest — to the level you want, and light up their passions so they learn faster and gain the mood bonus from doing work they love. A hopeless recruit can become a master surgeon or a legendary shooter in seconds. It uses two controls, Refresh Colonists to load your current roster and Apply to lock in the changes. It's built for players who want to shape their ideal team rather than hope the storyteller hands them the right skills. Toggle it off to keep skills earned the normal way.
What do the Refresh Colonists and Apply options do?
These are Skill Forge's two controls and they work together. Refresh Colonists loads your current RimWorld roster into the mod, so the list reflects exactly who's in your colony right now — useful after you recruit someone new, lose a pawn, or a colonist joins from an event. Once the right colonist is selected and you've dialed in the skill levels and passions you want, Apply commits those changes to that pawn. So the flow is: refresh to get an up-to-date list, adjust the numbers, then apply to make it real. Hit Refresh Colonists again any time your roster changes so you're always editing the correct, current set of people.
Can Skill Forge set passions as well as skill levels?
Yes — and passions are half the value. In RimWorld a colonist's passion for a skill controls how fast they improve at it and gives a mood boost when they do that work, so a high skill without passion slowly decays and feels flat. Skill Forge lets you switch passions on alongside setting the raw skill number, so your master crafter not only starts at the top but stays motivated and keeps their edge. That makes for a colonist who's genuinely built to specialise, rather than one who's temporarily good but bored. Combine high skills with matching passions to create the definitive expert for each job in your colony.
Why is the colonist list empty or out of date when I first open Skill Forge?
If the list looks empty or doesn't match your current RimWorld colony, hit Refresh Colonists — that's the button that pulls in your up-to-date roster. The mod reads whoever is in your colony at the moment you refresh, so if you opened it before loading a save, or your roster changed since you last looked, a refresh syncs it. This is by design: it keeps you from accidentally editing a stale list or a colonist who's no longer around. As a rule, tap Refresh Colonists whenever you open the mod or after any change to who's in the colony, then pick your pawn and make your edits.
Why would I use Skill Forge?
Because so much of a RimWorld run comes down to whether the storyteller happens to give you colonists with the right skills — and often it doesn't. Skill Forge lets you build the team you actually want: a dedicated doctor who won't botch surgery, a legendary shooter for defence, a master cook to end food poisoning. It's great for fixing a roster that's all farmers and no fighters, for roleplaying specific characters, and for skipping the slow grind of training skills from scratch. Use Refresh Colonists then Apply to shape anyone. It's free from ProjectMods, installs in one click, and toggles off whenever you want skills earned normally.
