</>What does Second Wind do?
Stonewards gets mean in a hurry. A wave breaks through, you get surrounded in a tunnel, and a good run ends face down in the dark. Second Wind takes that off the table. With it on, nothing lands. Enemy attacks, arrows, explosions, poison gas and even the king's own swing all stop bothering you. It covers every source of harm in the game, not just the obvious ones, which is why the strange stuff underground stops being a problem too. There is a second switch for co-op. Leave it off and only you are protected, so your friends still play a real game. Turn it on while you are hosting and the whole crew becomes untouchable, which is the setting for teaching new players a map or getting a group through a wall they keep bouncing off. Use it to scout deep, to learn where the waves come from, or just to enjoy the mining without checking your health bar every ten seconds.

</>Common questions about Second Wind
What does Second Wind do in Stonewards?
Second Wind makes you untouchable in Stonewards. With the Unbreakable switch on, nothing lands: enemy attacks, arrows, explosions, poison gas and even the king's own swing all stop bothering you. There is a second switch for co-op, so leave it off and only you are protected while your friends still play a real game, or turn it on while hosting and the whole crew becomes untouchable. Use it to scout deep, learn where the waves come from, teach a new player a map, or just enjoy the mining without checking your health bar every ten seconds. Free tier from ProjectMods.
What kinds of damage does Second Wind actually stop?
All of them. Rather than blocking a list of specific attacks, Second Wind covers every source of harm in Stonewards, which is why the odd ones are included: melee swings and arrows are obvious, but explosions, poison gas and even a stray hit from the king himself are all on the list. That matters underground, where the thing that kills you is rarely the enemy you were looking at. It also means environmental nastiness deep in a cave system stops being a reason not to go and look. Turn the switch off and every one of those hurts again immediately.
What does Cover The Whole Crew do?
It extends the protection from you alone to everyone in your Stonewards session, and it only works while you are hosting. Left off, Second Wind is personal: you are untouchable, your friends are not, and they carry on playing the game as built. Turned on by a host, nobody in the crew can be hurt, which is the setting for teaching new players a map, getting a group past a wave they keep bouncing off, or running a relaxed session where the mining is the point. Since it is a switch, you can flip it back mid-session when the lesson is over.
Can I protect only myself and leave my friends playing normally?
Yes, and that is the default. Leave Cover The Whole Crew off and Second Wind applies to your own dwarf only, so everyone else in the Stonewards session takes damage exactly as they always did. It is the polite setting for a mixed group: you can hold the gate through a wave that would have flattened you, and nobody else has their run quietly rewritten. It also makes you a useful body for a group that wants a real fight, since you can stand in the worst spot and hold attention while the rest of the crew works.
How is Second Wind different from Stone Skin?
Second Wind is absolute and Stone Skin is a margin. With Second Wind on, nothing in Stonewards can hurt you at all, which is what you want for scouting deep, learning a map or letting a new player find their feet. Stone Skin instead gives you a much deeper health bar, real armour, regeneration and life steal, so you still take damage and can still die, you just have far more room to make mistakes. Pick Second Wind when you want the danger switched off, and Stone Skin when you want a fair fight with a wider margin.
What options does Second Wind include?
Cover The Whole Crew
Extends the protection to everyone in your session instead of just you. Only works while you are hosting.
Unbreakable
Master switch. Nothing in the game can hurt you while this is on. Turn it off to go back to normal.
Second Wind makes you untouchable in Stonewards, since enemy hits, arrows, explosions and gas all stop landing, and a host switch extends it to the whole crew. Free-tier mod from ProjectMods.
System Requirements
What features does Second Wind include?
- Shrug off everything: enemy swings, arrows, explosions, poison gas, even the king's own attack.
- Leave the second switch off and only you are protected, so your friends still play a real game.
- Cover the whole crew in one click while hosting, and nobody else has to install a thing.
- Hold a tunnel on your own, or stand in the gate while a wave breaks around you.
- Turn it off whenever you like and go back to a dwarf who can absolutely die.
Best For
- Players learning a new map who want to find out where the waves come from without dying to find out.
- Hosts carrying a group through a wall they keep bouncing off, with nobody else having to install anything.
- Solo diggers heading somewhere genuinely dangerous who would rather scout it properly than restart.
- Friends showing a first-timer the ropes, so the new dwarf explores instead of watching a respawn timer.
- Streamers who need to keep talking to chat while standing in the middle of a horde.
